Our first rest day!

After travelling over 2000 kilometers we’ve hit our first rest/buffer day. We built in a few buffer days into our schedule to be sure that if we have mechanical issues we still have opportunities to still hit our dates and reservations later in the trip.

Without a fixed destination or schedule we were free to choose our own adventure!

Free of kids and any specific timeline us four guys took the time to go to the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada near the Winnipeg airport.

There we had Fred, one of the museum tour guides, give us a ‘private’ tour of the museum and gave us all sorts of details of the people, enterprises, and airplanes that made up the Canadian aviation industry. Indeed there is an interesting and innovative history here.

There was, and still is, a vast amount of Canada that is simply not accessible but by airplane, making the innovative and enterprising aviation pioneers an important piece of Canadian history.

After finishing up at the museum we headed to The Forks in downtown Winnipeg. The Forks is the area where the Assiniboine River and the Red River join and head north. There they have a bit of a plaza for hanging out and having a bite to eat, and probably for other cultural events. We did check out some of the art installations there and took a walk down to the river too.

To wrap up the day and keep our budgets in check, we rolled by the local grocery store and picked up some roasted chickens, bagged salad, and wraps. At $9 per person, this meal hit the spot, and did minimal damage to the wallet.

Day 4 is done. Tomorrow we’re back on the road. Desintation: Yorkton, SK.
