After failing miserably at getting to a non-existent movie theatre yesterday, today we’re heading south and what should be the penultimate leg of our journey. We originally didn’t plan on too many stops today.

On our way up this was definitely one of the highlight segments of the journey since the landscape is so beautiful. Unfortunately five weeks later the smoke from the wildfires in Manitoba and Ontario are making the views awfully hazy at times.

We take a lunch break in Wawa and drive past the famous goose again. We didn’t stop for photos this time, but instead snapped pics as we drove past. Charlie didn’t feel the need to get out and pose with the goose!

Phil contacted his Uncle-in-Law around lunch to check whether it was still possible to meet. But as it turns out, he’s at a wedding and the timing isn’t going to work out now. Nevertheless, we continue on towards Sault Ste. Marie and make other plans.

These plans include attempting to find a theatre again, to catch Superman. There is a proper theatre in Sault Ste. Marie, and does have a Superman showing at 3:30 which is great timing for us. We’ll make it there in time, only because we know that the ads and movie trailers will push out the movie start-time 10 minutes or so!
Unfortunately, the Blue Moke has other plans for us. No sooner do we get into Sault Ste. Marie and start hitting traffic then it starts to sputter and show coil-issue again. Phil and Dad are in the Blue Moke, and they pull off into a parking lot. Tim & Charlie are called back to help. We aren’t making the 3:30 Superman movie.

We thought we had nailed the coil-issue back in Squamish with a change to the power feed cable and the distributor. But apparently that wasn’t quite the case here. We toss on one of the other coils that had early issues, that we in retrospect feel might have been due to a loose wire we diagnosed later. It gets things up and running immediately though.
We’re late for the Superman movie, but fortunately for us timing is good for the F1 movie! For a bunch of car-guys, this is actually a pretty good option. We’re still tight on timing for this one, as the ads & movie trailers are still rolling as we take our seats.
After enjoying the movie, we then grab some food in the attached mall’s food court, and then head on our way east out-of-town. We don’t get a long way before the Blue Moke’s coil again is showing issues. We pull off at a McDonald’s to deal with it and swap in the last electronic coil we have in our spare-parts. We’re hopeful that this last one will get us the rest of the way home. We grab some food while we are there too.
These extra stops and movie have really pushed out our timeline today and we ended up needing to drive in the dark for the last 30-45 minutes to the motel. Not ideal, for sure. But we did make it there safely.

The hotel there is fully booked up, but fortunately the motel manager made sure that the parking spots in front of our room were left open for us, which definitely made things easier to carry all our bags in by hand!
Tomorrow should be the last day on the road. We’re heading home!
