After grabbing a quick hotel breakfast (yup, same ol’ powdered scrambled eggs + sausages) we got back into the Moke’s and started to motor again down the road.
Our first stop is a gas-station to make sure we’re filled up again. It’s also another chance to run into people who want to know what your vehicle is and take photos. While we were at the pumps a tourist bus that pulled in and out filed lots of Asian ladies who started snapping photos of our Mokes. One was even bold enough to tell us to “Stop!” as we pulled away, as she hadn’t finished taking enough photos!
Again we’re into breathtaking views as we make our way up and through the Rocky Mountains.

Today should be a relatively short driving day, but we’ve got a few stops to do. We cross into Alberta about 45 minutes down the road, and then hit our first stop at Lake Louise around the corner. Lake Louise is a classic Canadian place to check out due to the picture perfect view provided of the lake and mountains when standing at the end of the lake.

Pro Tip: When first walking up to Lake Louise there is a massive crowd at the first place you see the view. Don’t bother standing here, walk 2 minutes down the way and you’ll come to a place that has a quarter of the number of people and a MUCH bigger place to view from.

About 1.5 hours later we rolled into Banff, and other classic stop on any big great Canadian road trip. Here we drove up to the Banff Springs Hotel, which is an architecturally beautiful building. We parked on the road and marched into the building just like we were staying there, then wandered around the place to check it out. We then contemplating going back to drive our Mokes up to the front door and toss the keys to the valet!

Back into the tourist center of Banff we stopped to grab some grub. This time it was Subway, and we ate at the side of the road, as we parked in residents-only parking and wanted to monitor for parking enforcements officers!

Tim then wanted to do two stops in Calgary to visit some contacts there, so we decided to split ways. Phil & Dad drove on to Drumheller, while Tim and Charlie headed into Calgary-proper to visit.

Dad and Phil continued on the path to Drumheller and stopped to grab some photos when entering the town. Tim and Charlie met up with an old friend and also with the local Mini-guru, Murray.

Once all back at the hotel together we quickly turned around and headed out to the Royal Tyrell Museum, which is perhaps the premiere dinosaur museum in Canada. Alberta is a hot spot for palaeontology given the vast number of dinosaur bones that are continually being found and dug up in the province. The exhibits here were great. Definitely worth visiting if coming through the area.

The weather is not looking for favourable over night and into the morning. We wrapped up the Mokes in their tarps, and crossed our fingers that things weren’t going to be that bad in the morning.
