Our day started with us having a quick shower in the barracks-styled showers, and then a quick fluids and plug check of the Mokes. As expected, the Mokes are eating some oil, so they both got a bit of a top up. But they really are due for a complete oil change in Whitehorse, where we can get some oil with higher zinc content (which better for these older engines). The Green Moke’s front two tires were also showing considerable wear, much worse than we would have expected to see.

When then headed down the road to Tags, to have a proper cooked breakfast. This made for two mornings in a row where we got a quality Moke Trip breakfast. Five stars! (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐)

After breakfast it was back to the hotel to pack the Mokes and head to Whitehorse.
While not nearly as spectacular of a drive as the one two days ago, this one also had some really nice views. There were a few cool bridge we crossed, and a couple of spots we could stop to take some scenic photos and videos.

Mid-way to Whitehorse we took a short break at Teslin. We grabbed some quick snacks and talked to the Hell’s Angels guys as they were also taking a quick break in Teslin too. Got plenty of questions from those guys about what the ‘heck’ we are driving.

Rolling into Whitehorse in the early afternoon meant we had time to start to source oil and tires. Tim quickly found a local place to get the high zinc content oil.
<<Where did our “Welcome to Whitehorse” photo go?!? We’ll update this post later once we find it!>>
There was less success finding the tires we wanted as replacements for the Green Moke. They look pretty worn-out, even the less mechanically inclined guys on the trip were pointing it out. We figure it’s due to over-inflation.
Finding Moke-sized tires is always a challenge, and now we’re in one of the northern most cities in Canada! The chances of us landing a set or pair is slim. We still have spares though! It’s just that we’ll be starting on the spares and having the worn tires as replacements. Yikes.
Next door to the hotel was the Big Bear Eatery and Taphouse, which made for a great dinner spot. Wings for appetizers and greek-themed bowls for everyone. Another delicious meal, with a 4+ star #moketrip rating. (⭐⭐⭐⭐+)

Tim hopped over to the store to get the high zinc-content oil and both he and Dad went over to a friend-of-a-friend’s place in Whitehorse to borrow their garage to do the oil change on the Mokes. Thankfully Sheila was gracious enough to offer her home garage for this purpose. Thanks Sheila!
Tomorrow we rest and greet the other part of the family that is flying in to do the drive up the Dempster. They’re renting their own vehicle as the Moke’s seating is rather limited!
