We’re off!

Items are packed and ready to be loaded into the Mokes
All packed and ready to roll!

The plan was to leave at 8am, but for many reasons we didn’t get on the road until closer to 10am.

First order of business was to get the tanks fully-full to make sure all the measurements of fuel efficiency were spot on, so we can be sure that the long stretches of road on the Dempster are easily managed by the Mokes.

Heading north to Huntsville we picked up driver #4, Jeff, at noon. We stopped for a few extra minutes to eat our lunch before heading out again.

We took the westward route out through Rosseau and up Hwy 69 to Sudbury.

We stopped by Brian and Gwen’s place in Sudbury. Brian is a long time member of the Montreal Mini club. They graciously let us stop in for a few minutes for a refreshment, and Brian showed us his current stable of vehicles. Many thanks for your hospitality, Brian & Gwen!

From there we took the Mokes around the block to the Big Nickel to grab a couple of photos with this famous landmark.

After grabbing a coffee on the west side of Sudbury, we continued to head west to Sault Ste. Marie. But not 20 minutes later our squirrel-size bladders were fully caffeinated and needed some relief. A quick stop at the side of the road led to a scenario where a lunch bag was left on the edge of one of the Mokes and it took flight a couple of minutes later down the road. Fortunately the following Moke saw it and picked it up. Mini-disaster averted.

We rolled into Sault Ste. Marie just before 9pm which didn’t leave a whole lot of time to grab a decent dinner. But we did get the last seating at The Taj, which had some of the best Indian food we’ve ever had.

Read day 2 before day 1 – oh the recommendations for dinner I could have given you! But the Taj is a new one for me, glad it didn’t disappoint. SSM is famous for its Italian food as well…
