Today, as expected, was going to be a straight-road driving day across the prairies. The day started out with Dad driving with Charlie, and Tim driving with Phil.

Heading out of Regina we were again quickly into the vast farmlands of the Prairies. Lots of green, amber, yellow, and purple fields. Yes, purple! News-to-us is that flax has flowers of a blueish-purple colour, which is really neat to see in person (for the first time).

There wasn’t much to do as we drove along, so Charlie made quick work of settling in for a nap. Phil looked for the best places to capture the Prairie vistas. Dad and Tim kept the Mokes rolling down the road.
We pulled off the Trans Canada Highway (Hwy 1) in Moosomin, and grabbed some grub from the Co-op Food Store. Chicken Vindaloo Phil, Chicken Noodle Soup for Dad & Tim, while Charlie tossed back a few ham sambos (a.k.a. sandwiches) with the buns, meat, and cheese we bought there.

A quick Timmies stop to grab coffees and we were back on the road to Portage La Prairie.
A couple hours later we rolled into our stopping spot, but we were a bit unnerved that the place might possibly be describing itself as Poo Land.

Regardless, we unpacked the Mokes and hussled our bags into our room and figured the rest of our evening plans: Coke Can, dinner, and Pool.
We missed it on our westward journey, but now was our chance to visit the world’s largest Coke can, which was just 2 minutes down the road from our hotel. Probably not something you need to take a large detour to see, but if you’re coming through Portage, it’s a fun little sight.

We chose Over the Coals, a Greek restaurant for dinner, and received confusing directions from Google Maps, mostly due to the fact that the restaurant has an entrance from both the front and the back of the place!

Dinner was a solid four star rating (⭐⭐⭐⭐). The food was good and the service was really good too.

For dessert, we stopped off at What’s the Scoop and grabbed some ice cream tacos! Not the best ice cream treat we ever had, but definitely one of the most unique ones (⭐⭐⭐).

We kind of wish we could stay to try all the other ice cream goodies there, as we’re sure there are some 4 and 5 star treats there somewhere!

Tomorrow we’re crossing the border, back into Ontario!
