We’re back on the road today after our short tour of Winnipeg. We’ll be crossing over into Saskatchewan and into another time zone on this leg of the trip.
Shortly outside of Winnipeg we pulled over at The Little Red Barn to pick up some fresh Manitoba strawberries. The ladies there were fantastic! They wanted to know all about our vehicles and where we were headed. They even graciously washed a bunch of our basket of strawberries so would tuck into them on the road right away! We ate those strawberries all day and still had some left that we put in the hotel room fridge at the end of the day.

The temperature today was pretty intense. The breeze in the open vehicles made it bearable. But once you stopped the heat really got to you. The sun was intense, and burned most of us where we didn’t cover up or put on sunscreen.

The land out here started to roll a bit more, but you can still see for miles and miles. It’s incredible just how much farm land there is out here across Manitoba and Saskatchewan!

Driving into Yorkton we went straight to our hotel, the Comfort Inn & Suites. It was busy there, as there was a big baseball tournament in the next town over (Melville), and many players and families were staying there. And if anyone was hankering for 11 magical herbs and spices, KFC was right next door!

For dinner we found a local Mexican & El Salvadorian restaurant that was highly rated, and we were not disappointed (KFC was quickly down-voted) Phil had a chimichanga, dad and Tim cracked into some quesadillas, while Jeff opted to go with the El Salvadorian classic: pupusas. The woman working the counter and serving the food was incredibly friendly and helpful in navigating the menu and giving details about the town and local things going on (i.e. the local fair was happening this week). A big shout out to EE Burritos in Yorkton!

Tomorrow we’re off to the Saskatchewan & Alberta border: Lloydminster!
